First, thanks for a tremendous and much needed add on to Ableton Live. Before I discovered this, I was looking at using Dummy Clips to do similar things- launch clips, enable muting, turn effects off/on, etc. Tom Cosm's excellent video tutorial shows how this can be used to do amazing things by having clips trigger midi notes that are assigned to particular actions. Tom Cosm shows how to use midi notes in a dummy clip to automatically engage envelope control. For example, when a midi note plays in a dummy clip it can select an effect, and activate whatever envelope is set for that note. So you can set a dummy clip up to fade out something at a certain rate, or fade in reverb, or any other thing that can be changed with clip envelopes.. and when that dummy clip is triggers that envelope will happen. So, can Clpyphx trigger envelopes? Similarly can I put notes in a Clyphx midi clip and have events assigned to these notes happen as the notes play? I know, I know. Its really enough that your program does what it does. But envelope control and event sequencing would be SO COOL! For us looperites, one man band types, this script is WONDERFUL. Thanks again.
Welcome to the forum. The part of Live this script (and all remote scripts) talks to doesn’t have access to clip envelopes unfortunately, so responding to them wouldn’t be possible. That could change in the future though as Ableton is constantly evolving the API.
Having actions triggered by notes in an X-Clip could be doable and it’s along the lines of something I’m working on related to ramping. This may take a bit to sort out though. In the interim, you could do this to a lesser extent by using follow actions with X-Clips.
I'm wanting to use my FCB1010 to launch record in the next available clip slot in a selected track. I also want it to record for X number of bars, then play. How do I script that, or can I get close to that?
ExtraPrefs has an option that covers most of this, it doesn’t automatically select the next slot though. I plan on integrating ExtraPrefs with ClyphX at some point and will look into adding an option to advance to the next slot. In the interim, ClyphX does have an action for launching the next slot on a track ('SEL/PLAY >').
Welcome to the forum. It isn’t possible to have multiple ClyphX tracks or to run multiple ClyphX control surfaces with the current version, but an update is being worked on that will change that. This should be available shortly after the new year.
I could definitely use more than 6 control surface slots as well. If it’s any consolation, I do plan on consolidating several of these scripts into one in the future.
Loading stuff from the browser isn’t possible via Live’s API but, once the pending update is finalized, I’ll get back to looking into other ways of accomplishing this sort of stuff.
Welcome to the forum. The Loc X Action will jump to the locator named X. However, this will not work if the name includes reserved characters like [, ] or ;. My apologies for not mentioning this in the manual. I’ll rectify that soon.
The syntax of your first example is correct, but wouldn’t work because of the name of the locator. Also, you wouldn’t want to use the Restart Action (which jumps to Arrangement position 1.1.1) in the same Action List as a Loc X Action (which jumps to the Arrangement position of the locator).
I hope that clarifies it. If you have any further questions/problems with the beta, please post in the beta thread.
